ALBANY, Ga. -- The about 52-year-old woman found dead in a boarding house at 429 Tift Ave. 9:44 a.m. Saturday died of natural causes, said an Albany Police Department official.
"An autopsy has determined that the woman's death was natural," said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. "Detectives are still attempting to notify next of kin."
The dead woman's name will be withheld until her relatives are notified, Banks said.
Police responded to a call of a suspicious death at the boarding house, Banks said. Officers questioned anyone who emerged from the pale-green building that apparently had mailboxes for 12 rooms before the body was removed.
On the day of her death, the woman's live-in roommate, known as "Doc Brown" in the neighborhood, was taken to a hospital because he was in shock, neighbors said. He could not be reached for comment.
Dougherty County EMS responders removed the body at about 12:50 p.m. that day. It was taken to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation facility for an autopsy.
The boarding house sits around the corner from the Albany Rescue Mission, but is not part of the mission's facility.
