Woman's death in lee County ruled suicide

Leesburg -- An investigation into a Wednesday Lee County death ended with an autopsy verdict of suicide, said a Lee County Sheriff's Office official.

"Denise Markowski was found deceased on the back porch of a residence at 976 Pinewood Road at 9:56 a.m. Wednesday," said Chief Deputy Lewis Harris. "The case was treated as a death investigation.

She was sent to the GBI crime lab in Macon for an autopsy and it came back as a suicide."

Markowski, who was about 41 years old, had shot herself in the head, Harris said. The body was found by her two grown children, who were awakened by the gunshot, he added.

She had been living with her current husband in Florida. She called her ex-husband, Tommy Ross from Lee County, to pick her up, Harris said.

Ross drove to Florida and brought her back to his home on Tuesday.

Markowski suffered from depression according to her children, Harris said. Ross had checked on her well-being during the night and before he went to work Wednesday morning, Harris said.
