ALBANY -- American Legion's Post 182 baseball team -- which was disbanded a year ago only to be restarted this season -- got its fresh campaign off to a great start Thursday when it beat Schley County, 6-2, in Game 1, then won the nightcap, 4-0.
Allen Fender (Worth County) was the Game 1 winning pitcher, while Tyler Pinson (Baconton Charter) posted the shutout in Game 2.
Post 182, which is based in Leesburg, actually opened the season this past Sunday in an exhibition against Albany's Post 30, but that game was called after 6 1/2 innings because of rain with Post 30 ahead, 5-4.
The two area teams will face off again June 9 at Paul Eames in a contest that will count toward their area schedule. Post 182's next game is Sunday at Darton College against Wiregrass (Ala.).
