DCPD searching for driver

ALBANY, Ga. -- A southbound crash on the 500 block of the Liberty Expressway led to violence and warrants for multiple charges on a driver, a Dougherty County Police Department report stated.

Police have warrants for Vivian Mathis, on charges of aggressive driving, disorderly conduct, simple battery and aggravated assault, a police report stated.

David Holcomb reported that a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Mathis struck his vehicle at about 11:10 a.m. Wednesday while both were headed south on the Liberty Expressway.

"The Chevrolet Silverado stopped on the Moultrie Road exit, and the driver, Vivian Mathis, exited his Silverado and came back and attacked" Holcomb, the police report stated. "After the altercation, Vivian Mathis attempted to strike David (Holcomb) with his vehicle."

Mathis has not yet been arrested, county police Capt. Jim Sexton said. Officers are conducting a search for him. No other information was immediately available by press time.

In another case, county police are looking for a thief who stole a $13,000, 2004 International 9000 series semi-tractor from a residence on Radium Springs Road.

In a classic case of what could be called a failure to communicate, the owner of the truck left it at a friend's while she went out of town April 8, Sexton said. No names of the people involved were immediately available.

Some time between the day the truck owner left and April 15, the truck disappeared. The friend storing the truck thought the owner had returned and taken it.

That is why the truck was not reported stolen until earlier this week when the owner did return, Sexton said.

"We would like the community's help in locating the truck," Sexton said. "They can call Crime Stoppers or our office."

Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Dougherty County Police Department at (229) 430-6600 or Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477) or (229) 431-3288.
