UPDATE: Police confirm 7-year-old dead after drowning

Albany Police spokesperson Steve Butler says that the boy and his younger brother and a group of other young boys were together when they apparently hopped a privacy fence of a home with a pool on the 400 block of Endicott Lane.

According to two seperate sources affiliated with the investigation but not authorized to speak to the media, the victim has been identified as John Perry Roberts.

"The boy apparently wandered into the deep end and drowned," Butler said. "Paramedics tried to revive him on the way to the hospital but he was pronounced dead."

Dougherty County Coroner Emma Quimbley was dispatched to the hospital where the child's family has apparently also been summoned.

The boy's brother is apparently fine and without injury. There is no information as to how police were called and whether the brother was able to seek help.
