ALBANY, Ga. -- Responding to two unrelated 9 a.m. Wednesday calls, the Albany Police Department began investigating the deaths of two men.
A black man found dead outside a home at 525 B West Residence Ave. was labeled John Doe because his identity is unknown, a police report stated.
The homes next door were either unoccupied or no one answered the knocks on the doors around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. A group of people diagonally across the street said they were not from the neighborhood and didn't know the man.
"Neighbors saw the body and alerted 911," said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. "Cause of death is currently under investigation."
Another man was found dead in his home at 2804 Westgate Drive by his stepson who came to visit from out of town, the report stated. The stepson called 911 to report the death of Daniel C. Hirtes, 56, the report added. Hirtes' death is also under investigation.
Hirtes suffered from medical problems, a man at the home who described himself as a family friend said. the friend, who did not identify himself, said he believed the death was from natural causes.
