Sherwood hires new basketball coach

Sherwood Christian Academy has hired a boys basketball coach to replace Matt Ruta, who turned the program around and then left after two years to return to Florida, where he took a job in Tallahassee.

SCA is bringing in Gavin Felix from New Orleans, where he coached boys basketball and was also the head football coach at Cresent City Christian.

Ruta went 40-13 in his two years at SCA and led the Eagles to their first region title since 2004 last season. Felix will have a tough task in front of him as Sherwood moves up from GISA Class AA to Class AAA next season.

"He is a man of integrity,'' said SCA principal Luke Bowers. "We're all excited to have him here.''
