NEW YORK -- Chad Jones, a third-round draft choice of the Giants, was seriously injured in a car accident in New Orleans on Friday morning. Jones, a safety who played at LSU, suffered a fractured left leg when his sport utility vehicle crashed into a pole, exposing nerves and arteries.
LSU coach Les Miles said in a post on Twitter: "Just got news about Chad Jones' car accident. We are praying for Chad and his family. Keep him in your prayers."
The Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said, "We continue to gather information on Chad's condition, and obviously our primary concern is for his health and well-being."
WWL-TV, a CBS affiliate in New Orleans, reported that Jones was in guarded condition when taken to LSU Public Hospital. The station also reported that Jones' father, Alfred, said his son was alert when paramedics took him to the emergency room.
Two passengers in Jones' vehicle suffered minor injuries and were not taken to the hospital.
Jones, 21, is from New Orleans and played three seasons at LSU before forgoing his senior year. He also played baseball as a left-handed reliever and part-time outfielder, winning a national title in 2009.
