Following a settlement of a lawsuit filed against the system by the Albany Herald, WFXL-TV and WALB-TV, the system had to notify remaining candidates of their intention to disclose their information to the public and give them the opportunity to withdraw from consideration.
DCSS Attorney Tommy Coleman and Bill Sampson, of the Georgia School Board Association, both confirmed that all of the other finalists withdrew from consideration, leaving Murfree the only viable candidate.
Murfree will likely be hired 14 days from today, officials say.
