The private-school all-star team from South Carolina might have beaten those from GISA Class AAA on Saturday, 100-92, but local stars still had a day to remember.
Deerfield-Windsor's Reggie Brown finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Knights teammates Michael Matthews (15 points, five assists, two steals) and Shaun Jones (four points, three steals and eight assists).
GSW BASEBALL: Bud Long went 3-for-4 with a three-run double and a three-run homer to lead Georgia Southwestern to a 17-8 win and Peach Belt weekend sweep of Montevallo on Sunday.
GSW hitters erupted for 44 runs and 41 hits in the three-game set.
After Montevallo extended its advantage in Sunday's game to 6-3 , Long tied it with a three-run blast over the left-field wall. Zack Stanton, after reaching base with a double, eventually scored off a pair of wild pitches to give GSW its first lead of the game.
Southwestern posted another four-run frame to take the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when Long struck again; this time with a three-run double down the left field line to score Doyle, Allen and Kevin Carroll.
The Hurricanes put the game out of reach in the seventh with a five-run, five-hit inning. Stanton, Trent Dooley, Haynes and Poston collected RBI hits.
