Man sentenced to 30 years for child sex abuse

ALBANY -- An Albany man was sentenced to 30 years in jail without possibility of parole Wednesday after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, federal officials stated via e-mail.

Justin A. Barron, 21, pleaded guilty on Dec. 16, 2009 to the abuse, which took place on Feb. 19 the same year at the Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany, officials said.

"Barron had entered into a plea agreement in which he admitted he had sexually assaulted a 9-year-old female," the e-mail stated. "He also admitted to sexually assaulting another 6-year-old female on the base earlier that week."

Barron was a civilian dependent whose parents worked and resided at the base, said Marine Lt. Joe Kyle Thomas, the public affairs officer for the base. Barron was immediately banned from the base when he was arrested, Thomas added.

Judge W. Louis Sands of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia presided over the case and gave the sentence.

There is no parole in the federal prison system. Upon completion of his sentence, Barron must remain on supervised release for the rest of his life.

"The United States Attorney's Office is dedicated to prosecuting all persons involved in the sexual abuse and exploitation of children to the fullest extent of the law," said G.F. Peterman III, acting United States attorney.
