AMERICUS -- Dougherty County School System finalists Roy Brooks and Valya Lee are two of the three finalists who were announced for the Sumter County School System's superintendent job March 13.
Brooks, of Little Rock, Ark., and Lee, of the Clayton County School System, each withdrew his or her name in late February, along with three other candidates who interviewed for the DCSS position in December, to clear the way for Albany State University executive Joshua Murfree to be the only finalist remaining for the DCSS superintendent job.
Both the Dougherty and Sumter county searches were conducted by Georgia School Boards Association consultant Bill Sampson.
Murfree could be named the Dougherty County School System's next superintendent at Wednesday's noon Board of Education meeting at Dougherty County Middle School. The appointment of the superintendent is not on the meeting's agenda, but the previously tabled superintendent community forum is slated to be discussed.
According to the Americus Times-Recorder, Sumter County residents will have an opportunity to meet Brooks, Lee and other finalist Steve Ballowe, a Brunswick principal at Glynn Academy.
Ballowe will talk Monday at Sumter County Primary; Lee is scheduled to talk Tuesday at Sumter County Middle, and Brooks will meet the community Thursday at Sarah Cobb Elementary. Each public introduction will be at 7 p.m. and will be held in the schools' gymnasium.
