Dougherty County School System Superintendent Sally Whatley presented a proposal to the Dougherty County Board of Education finance committee to merge two elementary school zones. The proposal, which would have to be voted upon at a later time, would create one MLK school zone from the merging of Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School (327 students) and Lamar Reese Elementary (647 students).

The single MLK zone would increase in size to include Lamar Reese students. Lamar Reese, now a zone and magnet school, would become a dedicated magnet school.
