Local man shot at apartment complex

ALBANY -- A 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the upper abdomen about 5:20 p.m. Thursday, said Phyllis Banks, the Albany Police Department's spokeswoman.

David Morell was taken to Palmyra Medical Center for treatment after he was shot, Banks said. He was going to have surgery Thursday evening, she added.

Morell was in an apartment parking lot at 2401 N. Nottingham Way with another man, Daniel Landing Knight, 19, when two black males approached them, Banks said. The gunmen robbed Morell and Knight, she said, then one of the robbers shot Morell.

Only a sketchy description of the thieves was available. "They are both 6 foot tall, weighing about 180 pounds," Banks said "One has a red hat and the other has a gray shirt."
