A press release from the U.S. Attorney's office states:
Hulices Montes, age 20, of Buford, Georgia, and Rigoberto Figueroa-Benitez, age 26, of Mexico were sentenced on March 25, 2010 to federal prison by the Honorable W. Louis Sands of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia according to Acting U.S. Attorney G.F. Peterman, III. Montes was sentenced to forty-six (46) months to be served in federal prison followed by four (4) years of federal supervised release. Figueroa-Benitez was sentenced to fifty (50) months to be served in federal prison followed by four (4) years of federal supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Both defendants previously entered written plea agreements in federal court admitting to transporting three (3) kilograms of powder cocaine on October 11, 2008 to an individual in the Fitzgerald, Georgia area. The case was investigated by the Ben Hill County Sheriff's Department, the Fitzgerald Police Department and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant United States Attorney Jason M. Ferguson prosecuted the case.
