ALBANY -- The announcer had a little trouble pronouncing his name, but it didn't really matter, because everyone in the Darton College gym knew who about Onochie Ochie.

They love to oooh and ahhh at Westover when Ochie slams home one of his flying circus dunks, and he received the same reaction Saturday night when he won the dunk contest at the Deep South High School All-Star Classic with an array of dunks and then one final slam.

Ochie had to beat Terrell County's Alre'k Brown, whose running reverse slam in the final left the crowd stirring, and Frederick Holton from Thomasville and girls contestant, Tiara Todd of Dougherty.

Todd, a 5-foot-6 guard for Dougherty's girls team, got a lift (literally) from a teammate, and her dunk brought the house down, but nothing compared to Ochie's opening act when he busted home a series of dunks while wearing sandals. He wore tennis shoes in the final.

It was all but over when Ochie put his elbow in the rim (remember, he was wearing sandals) with a Vince Carter-like dunk that left the crowd swooning and inspired some to chant "Ochie! Ochie!''

"The first time I saw Vince Carter do that dunk I wanted to do it in a dunk contest,'' Ochie said. "I wanted to open up the contest with that being my first dunk.''

And the sandals?

"I just wanted to do something different,'' said Ochie, who helped lead Westover to the Class AAA Final Four.

Pelham's Lester Moore won the boys 3-point shooting contest, beating Monroe's Brandon Blakely and Cairo's Jemonta Baker. Moore made eight 3s in the first round and nine in the finals to win the event. But he wouldn't have beaten Bainbridge's Alexis Burke, who won the girls 3 point contest, beating Mitchell county's Kedeemya Cooper in the final round.

Burke, who has signed with Illinois, busted nine 3s in the opening round, and then made 10 3s in the final round to win it.
