VALDOSTA -- Phil Rouse of Albany and Jon Ladson of Moultrie played their hearts out this weekend at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in the 22nd annual Georgia Four-Ball Championship, but came up just a little short Sunday in the final round, settling for a tie for fourth place overall to finish four under for the tournament. The duo shot a 70 Sunday, but it wasn't enough to catch Jack Benson of Roswell and Pete Malcolm of Duluth. Benson and Roswell won in a sudden-death playoff.
While Rouse and Ladson nearly won the overall title competing in the second flight, they actually didn't even win their own flight because the duo that lost to Benson and Roswell in the playoff -- Clay Gardner of Newnan and John Miles Jr. of Fayetteville -- also came from the second flight and took first, leaving Rouse and Ladson second.
Other local finishers included Jeff Thorne of Sylvester and his partner Jim Langdale of Valdosta tying for first in the fourth flight, and Spencer Davis (Albany) and Tim Carter (Leesburg) tied for 8th in championship flight.
