ATHENS --- The Georgia football team returned to practice at tWoodruff Practice Facility for more than an hour and a half on Tuesday afternoon after scrimmaging at Sanford Stadium on Saturday.
But coach Mark Richt, for one, was not all that impressed by the effort.
"I would rank (Tuesday's) practice ninth out of the nine we have had," Richt said. "The tempo fizzled on us and I had been satisfied with the tempo pretty much all spring. We are going to have to learn to push through when we're tired. We didn't practice like champions today, but the good news is that Thursday is another day to get it going."
Richt also mentioned that he has been attending all of the quarterback meetings this spring as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo tries to figure out the team's 2010 starter. Junior Logan Gray and redshirt freshmen Zach Mettenberger and Aaron Murray are all competing for the starting job.
"One reason I started attending the meetings is that I missed them," said Richt, who was a collegiate quarterback and who coached quarterbacks throughout his career. "Another is that we are trying to decide a starter and things change with this situation day to day. I want to see these guys react to coaching and see how they are handling the pressure that goes along with this position."
Junior Richard Samuel continued his transition from tailback to linebacker on Tuesday and Richt expressed his thoughts on Samuel's performance thus far.
"He is getting it and looks like a linebacker out there," Richt said. "He hadn't played a lot of defense recently but like the rest of the defense with our new system, he is getting comfortable as time goes by."
It was also announced on Monday that redshirt sophomore offensive lineman A.J. Harmon will be out for the remainder of the spring after suffering a high ankle sprain during Saturday's scrimmage.
The Bulldogs have five more practices before they wrap up their spring with the annual G-Day game on Saturday, April 10. The next time Georgia practices is today and the Bulldogs will scrimmage again at Sanford Stadium on Saturday, April 3.
