ALBANY, Ga. -- Two men loaded five, non-working refrigerators from the property of Seasons Christian Care Center on Ledo Road onto a truck Tuesday and , according to police, probably were headed to a recycling center to sell them.

They didn't get far.

The refrigerators were found about six miles away in the bed of an abandoned Ford pickup an hour later, said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. One man is in jail in connection with the theft and another is sought, she added.

"Witnesses told officers they saw a blue and white Ford truck with the refrigerators on the back leaving the 2700 block of Ledo Road," Banks said. "Approximately an hour later a vehicle matching that description was spotted abandoned on the (Liberty Expressway) bypass just before the Blaylock Road exit."

Under arrest for felony theft by taking, George Behrend, 21, is in Dougherty County jail in lieu of $2,500 bail, said a jail spokeswoman.

The police are searching for Thomas Cash Odum, 37, in connection with the refrigerator theft, Banks said. Odum, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds, is homeless, drives a purple pickup, possibly a Ford Ranger and is known to frequent hotels on North Slappey Boulevard, Banks said.

Anyone with additional information should call Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477) or (229) 431-3288.
