Englewood to host community health fair

ALBANY, Ga. -- In order to give something back to the public, one of the area's health care providers will be hosting an event to promote healthy living.

Albany's Englewood Health Systems will be having a community health fair at the Albany Mall from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

The health fair is also being held to recognize National Women's Health Week, Mother's Day and National Nurses Week.

"It all ties in together," Englewood Marketing Director Tony Alligood said. "We are real excited about it."

The fair, which will be located in front of Belk and the area between Belk and JCPenney, will be free to the public and is expected to include blood pressure checks, oxygen saturation level checks and weight checks.

"We are helping improve health one visit at a time," said Greta Amerson, Englewood's director of professional care services. "Many people will be bringing a neighbor, friend, sister and mother to the mall for this event and to do some Mother's Day shopping.

"The gift of good health really is the greatest gift."

Englewood has already received public input regarding the event, which officials say speaks to the anticipated response.

"This was one of those things we felt was good for the community," Alligood said. "If something is convenient for you, you will stop by. It will be a good turnout.

"We want to make it worth peoples' time."

People do not have to be from the area to take part in the fair.

Participants will also be able to register to win gift baskets at the event.

Englewood is also set to hold a similar event this week for teachers at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School as part of Teacher Appreciation Week, Alligood said.
