ALBANY, Ga. -- Johnny John Martinez, 25, of Albany was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday on the 120 block of Liberty Expressway, an Albany Police Department report stated.
Martinez was walking in the westbound lane when he was hit by a Southeastern Freight Line truck in the same lane driven by Jason Adkins, 38, of Jasper Ala., said Steve Butler, Albany police spokesman.
"No charges have been filed against the truck driver. The investigation is still ongoing," Butler said. "The victim (Martinez) has been in Albany for a short time. Most of his immediate family is located in New York City."
The family has been notified, Butler said. There was no information immediately available on the reason Martinez was walking on the road at that time of day.
At 5 p.m. Thursday, Butler did not have information concerning whether an autopsy was planned or if alcohol or drugs were involved.
