ALBANY -- The body of a dog was discovered Saturday night lying in the front yard of an Albany residence, according to Albany Police Department officials.
The dog, a white bulldog, was dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Police said the owner of the residence on the 1700 block of Spruce Lane, 25-year-old Julneisia Roberts, was the one who reported the crime to the police.
She was not the animal's owner.
Roberts told police she had heard a gunshot prior to discovering the dog.
"When she (the resident) went outside she found the dog in her yard and the dog was deceased," APD spokesperson Phyllis Banks said.
The bulldog was fatally wounded on the right side between his front and rear legs.
Workers from Albany Public Works were called by APD to dispose of the dog's remains.
Police said they have no suspects in the case and the dog's owner is unknown.
