Summer camps in full swing

ALBANY -- Summer is upon us, which means it's time for summer camps.

There are a number of camping opportunities available. Below is a listing ranging from drama workshops to indoor and outdoor activities.

ALBANY AREA YMCA

Camp Discover (ages 5-7), Camp Adventure (ages 8-10) and Camp Spirit (ages 11-14) will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 24- July 24. Aikido Martial Arts will be held for ages 5-17 from 9-11:30 a.m. June 21-25 or July 12-16. Cost is $65 for facility members and $90 for program members.

Baby-sitting Certification for ages 11-17 will be held 5 p.m.-7 p.m. June 7-10. The cost will be $50 for facility members and $70 for program members.

Beach Volleyball & Swimming will be held for ages 9-17 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. June 14-18. The cost is $50 for facility members and $70 for program members.

Baseball Camp will be held for ages 5-13 from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. June 21-25. Cost is $50 for facility members and $65 for program members.

Dip-N-Dive will be conducted for ages 8-14 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. July 12-16. Cost is $50 for facility members and $65 for program members.

Elevating Moral Standards will be available to ages 6-12 from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. June 21-25. The cost is $40 for facility members and $60 for program members.

Ages 13-18 will have sessions from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. July 12-16. Cost will be $40 for facility members and $80 for program members.

Guard Start will be available for ages 11-15 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. June 28-July 2. The cost is $50 for facility members and $70 for program members.

Jump Rope classes will be open to children aged 6 and up from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. June 14-18. Cost for facility members is $50 and $70 for program members.

Princess Dance camp will be held for ages 4 and up from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. June 14-18. The cost will be $50 for facility members and $70 for program members.

Step Team will be held for ages 6-10 from 10:15 a.m.-11:15 a.m. June 21-25. Cost is $30 for facility members and $60 for program members. Ages 11 and up will be able to participate in classes from 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. during the same dates as above. The same costs also apply.

The Lee County branch will hold a step team camp for children ages 6-10 from 10:15 a.m.-11:15 June 7-11. Cost will be $30 for facility members and $60 for program members. The sessions for ages 11 and up will be 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Same dates and costs apply.

Teen Pump-N-Swim will be open for ages 12-17 from noon-4p.m. June 7-11 or July 19-23. The cost is $100 for facility members and $150 for program members.

Tennis camps will be offered for ages 5 and up from June 1-3. Ages 5-8 will meet from 9 a.m.-9:45 a.m., and ages 9-14 will meet from 9:45-10:30 a.m. The cost is $20 for facility members and $40 for program members. Ages 15 and up will have their session from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The cost for the older group will be $25 for facility members and $45 for program members.

Sessions will also be held July 19-23 and July 26-30. Ages categories and time slots are same as above. Prices for ages 5-14 will be $30 for facility members and $60 for program members. The cost for those aged 15 and up is $35 for facility members and $65 for program members.

Triathlon Training will be held for ages 5-17 from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 19-23. Cost is $60 for facility members and $90 for program members. The triathlon event will be held July 24.

Water Ski at Lake Blackshear will be held for ages 12-17 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. July 24. Participants must be good swimmers. Cost is $40 for facility members and $55 for program members.

Zumba will be held for ages 8 and up from 2 p.m.-3:45 p.m. July 12-16. Cost is $50 for facility members and $70 for program members.

The Lee County branch will hold zumba sessions for ages 8 and up from 10:15 a.m.-noon July 14-18. The same costs as above apply.

JUNIOR THEATER

Albany Junior Theatre is hosting a drama camp for children aged 6-13 at The Levee on Dawson Road from 1 p.m.-5:30 p.m. July 6-10. The camp's project will cover highlights from the play "Annie." Cost is $125. For more information, call Alicia Croxton at (229) 395-7124.

WINSHAPE CAMP

Byne Memorial Baptist Church and local Chick-fil-A restaurants have partnered with WinShape Foundation to provide a camp for children entering the first through sixth grades. WinShape Camps C3 (Camps Connecting Communities) is a day camp facilitated by trained staff that combines sports, recreation, arts, Bible study and worship.

The camp will take place at 2832 Ledo Road from 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m June 7-10 and from 7:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. June 11. Parents may register their children at www.winshapecamps.org or by calling 1-800-448-6955, ext. 2396. Cost is $179 per camper. A $50 deposit is due upon registration, and the remaining balance must be paid 30 days prior to the start of camp. A 10 percent discount is applied to families with multiple children attending. SWAMP STOMP CAMP

Chehaw will be hosting Swamp Stomp Summer Camp for ages 4-12. The camps will be broken into week-long, half-day (morning or afternoon) sessions by age group beginning May 31. Cost for 4-year-old participants will be $70 for members and $80 for non-members. The cost for ages 5-12 will be $80 for members and $90 for non-members. DARTON COLLEGE

Acting Up! Acting Camp is for ages 8-11. Participants will be introduced to a variety of theatre games and exercises, and will also be exposed to the technical side of play productions such as lighting and sound. No previous performance experience is necessary. It will take place from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. July 19-22. Fee is $65, and registration is due June 12. The camp will be limited to the first 16 who register.

American Girl Camp is for ages 7-12. It is planned to include a look into various eras of American history as seen through the characters featured in the "American Girl" book series. It's scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 19-22. The fee is $125, or $115 for early bird registrants. Deadline to register is July 9. The camp will be limited to the first 18 campers.

American Red Cross Baby-sitter's Training with Child and Infant CPR and First Aid Certification Course is set aside for ages 11-15. The course will cover the skills necessary to safely and effectively care for a child in everyday and emergency situations, as well as tips on developing a baby-sitting business. The class is set for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 2-3 or July 7-8. The fee is $105. Space will be limited to the first 20 participants.

Baseball Camp is being offered for children aged 6-14. The sessions will include game basics and individual instruction. The camp is set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 1-4. The fee is $100, or $90 each for two participants in the same family. There are 80 slots available.

Cavalier Afternoon Activity Camp is for students aged 6-12. It will included math scavenger hunts and education about other cultures as well a sports or Lego camp. It will be held 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. June 14-17, June 28-July 1 and July 19-22. Cost is $65 a week, or $60 a week for early bird registrants. Deadline is one week prior to the camp.

Computer Skills Brush-Up Class for Teens is for campers aged 11-18. The class will include the basics of various Windows applications. The sessions are slated for 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. June 22, 24, 29 and July 1. The fee is $85. Registration and payment is due by June 15.

Cross Country Camp is for children of all ages. The camp will include an introduction to cross country running in the form of daily activities, games and beginner fun runs. The camp is set for 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m. June 10-12. The price is $65, or $60 for early bird registrants. The deadline is May 30.

Darton College All-Sports Camp is for children aged 6-14. The camp will include a wide variety of activities and participation in many different sports. It is set for 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 6-9 and July 26-29. Fee is $85, or $75 for early bird registrants. Deadlines to apply are June 19 for the first camp, and July 10 for the second camp.

DC Individual Basketball Camp is for children aged 7-16. The camp will include an overview of the game's fundamentals as well as individualized attention. The camp is slated for 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. June 14-16. The cost is $85 per camper. A $50 deposit is due by June 4 with a completed registration form and waiver.

DC Fundamental Basketball Camp is for children in grades 1-12. It is set for 10 a.m.-noon for 1st-6th grade and 2 p.m.-4 p.m. for 7th-12th grade June 21-22. The fee is $85 with a $5 discount per sibling. Early bird registration is $75. Deadline is 4 p.m. June 9. A non-refundable $25 deposit is required by May 21 with a completed registration form and waiver.

DC Wrestling Technique Camp is for children in kindergarten up through the eighth grade. The camp is designed to cover all the aspects of the sport. It is slated for 8 a.m.-4 p.m. July 9, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. July 10 and 8 a.m.-noon July 11. The price is $85, or $75 for early bird registrants. The deadline is July 1.

Digital Photography Class for Teens is for children aged 13-18. The class will explore the creative and custom functions of a camera, and will also include the presentation of a photo board. It is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. June 15-17. The price is $55. Registration and payment is due June 10.

Golf Camp is for children aged 7-16. Areas of interest will include the basics of the game and the equipment involved, as well as game etiquette. The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. The price is $99, or $89 for early bird registrants. Deadline is May 29. The class will be limited to the first 18 campers.

Lego Battle Bots is for ages 8-12. The goals of this camp will be to educate participants on how to build and motorize battle cars and other vehicles. Lessons will also demonstrate the use of mechanical lifts, nets, drills, ramps and more. It is scheduled for 8:30-11:30 a.m. June 14-17. Fee is $125, or $115 for early bird registrants. It will be limited to the first 24 people. The deadline to register is June 4.

Lego Junior Vehicles is aimed toward ages 5-7. Participants will be able to build 14 different vehicles. It is set for 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 19-22. Fee is $125. Early bird registration is $115. Deadline to register is July 2. Space will be limited to the first 16 campers.

Outdoor Adventure Camp is for children aged 13-17. The class will cover hiking and outdoor living skills, among other topics. It is set for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 21-23, with an overnight stay on June 22. Fee is $89, which is due with registration on June 4.

Outdoor Day Camp is for children aged 9-12. Areas of interest will be the basics of current paddling, rock climbing and campsite selection. It is set for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 14-18. The fee is $180. Registration and payment is due by June 4.

Soccer Camp is for children aged 6-14. Participants will receive the technical and functional training for basic skills, and will participate in position play. The camp is slated for 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. June 14-16. The fee is $100, or $90 for early bird registrants. Deadline is June 13.

Softball Day Camp is for girls aged 6 years-12th grade. The camp will cover the fundamentals of the game. Classes are slated for 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. July 19-21. The price is $85, or $75 for early bird registrants. Deadline is July 10.

Softball Hitting Clinic is for girls aged 6 years-12th grade. The camp is solely devoted to hitting and the offensive side of fast pitch softball. It is slated for 8:30 a.m-11:30 a.m. July 12-14. The price is $85, or $75 for early bird registrants. The deadline is $75.

Swimming/Learn to Swim Camp is for those that love the water, but are still beginners in the aspects of swimming. Campers will swim, dive and learn pool safety guidelines. The class is set for 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. June 21-24. The price is $85, or $75 for early bird registrants.

Tennis Camp is for children aged 7-14. It will include basics of the game and playing etiquette, as well individual instruction. The camp is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. June 1-4. Fee is $85, and is due with registration by May 22. The class will be limited to the first 15 registrants.

Wow Science Camp is for ages 7-11. It will cover the creation of slime, volcanic eruptions, magnets, dinosaurs and various lab experiments. It's set to take place from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. June 28-July 2. Cost is $130. Early bird registration is $120. Deadline to register is June 18. It is open to the first 24 participants.

Young Writers Club is for ages 10-14 years. The camp will allow participants to write and share while exploring various genres and styles under the guidance of a Darton instructor and former leadership team member of the Southwest Georgia Writing Project. All writing will be published electronically to a class blog.

It is slated for 1 p.m.-4 p.m. July 12-15. The fee is $65. Registration is due July 2. It will be limited to the first 16 campers that commit.

CAMP INVENTION

Deerfield-Windsor School is hosting Camp Invention for rising 1st-6th graders from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The camp will serve as a summer enrichment program that is designed to instill modern life skills such as problem solving and teamwork through hands-on activities. The camp will be held on the DWS Lower Campus, located on Beattie Road.

FLINT RIVERQUARIUM

Dinosaur Camp will be held for ages 5-8 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. June 7-11. In collaboration with Thronateeska Heritage Center, the RiverQuarium will provide participants a look into the world of dinosaurs, and allow them to visit their descendants at the RiverQuarium's aviary. The cost will be $100 for non-members, and $90 for members.

River Rats will be held for children aged 7-11 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. June 21-25. Campers will have the opportunity to soak up knowledge about the Flint River, and test the water for pollution. Cost is $100 for non-members and $90 for members.

Small Fry will be open to children aged 5-6 from 9 a.m.-noon July 12-16. Participants will be involved with animal encounters, crafts, games and exploration. Cost will be $60 for non-members and $50 for members.

Wild Ocean will be open to children aged 7-11 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. June 14-18. Participants will be able to learn about ocean habitats and view the film "Wild Ocean" in the Imagination Theater. Cost is $100 for non-members and $90 for members.

Wild & Wacky Science will be held for ages 7-11 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. July 5-9. Campers will create atomic slime, make tornadoes and launch rockets as well as see some of the creatures on display in the RiverQuarium. Cost will be $100 for non-members and $90 members.

DRAMA CAMPS

King Kids Production Company has two summer drama camps open for children in kindergarten through ninth grade. "A Year with Frog and Toad Kids" for kindergarten through third grade will be from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. June 28-July 2. "The Music Man Jr." for grades 4-9 will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 5-9. EQUESTRIAN

Star K Equestrian Center Camp is for interested campers aged 7 and up. The instruction will cover styles of riding, grooming, psychology of a horse, nutrition and other areas. It will take place from 9 a.m.-noon June 7-11 at the Star K Equestrian Center in Leesburg. Cost is $160.

Stonehaven Stables is offering a summer day camp with weekly sessions all summer from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. starting May 31. Participants will learn to ride and care for a horse. The cost is $75 a week, and a $10 application fee the first week. For more information, call (229) 431-0056.

THEATER YOUTH WORKSHOP

Theatre Albany will be hosting its 25th annual Summer Youth Workshop from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 7-11 for children aged 7-18. Participants will work on performance and mask techniques, dance and singing.
