AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn has granted quarterback Tyrik Rollison a release from his scholarship.
The redshirt freshman was one of the Tigers' bigger signing coups last year. But he was suspended for breaking an undisclosed team rule in December, didn't travel with the team to the Outback Bowl and did not go through spring practice.
Junior college transfer Cam Newton won the starting job during the spring.
Rollison indicated in a February posting on Facebook that he would transfer to Sam Houston State, a Championship Subdivision school near his Texas hometown where he would be eligible to play immediately.
