ALBANY, Ga. -- ADICA officials will officially revive a popular downtown event Friday with the showing of a family film at Riverfront Park.
The Albany Dougherty Inner City Authority, working in conjunction with the city's Recreation & Parks Department, will show the animated film "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," Friday night -- the first in a series of family movie nights planned throughout the summer, ADICA assistant Monique Broughton said.
The event is free to the public.
Sponsored by Video Warehouse, the Downtown Merchants Association and Ward 3 Commissioner Christopher Pike, the event will feature food and entertainment vendors beginning at 7:30 p.m., with the film set to air at sundown.
"We're hoping this will be the first of many family-themed events downtown," Broughton said. "Hopefully, we won't have to worry about rain and it'll be a great event."
The film will be shown on a 30 feet tall by 30 feet wide screen in Riverfront Park.
ADICA officials say that security will be beefed up in the downtown area for the event.
The summer movie night events have shades of past movie night events downtown that some on the ADICA board remember drawing thousands.
While government officials say they aren't expecting thousands to flock downtown Friday for the event, they are hopeful that as word spreads that it will catch on and become a popular event.
