ALBANY, Ga. -- A motorcycle driver tried to evade police at high speed, crashed into a car and was hospitalized with a broken leg Thursday, a Dougherty County Police Department report stated.
Motorcycle driver Michael Anthony, 23, of 100 Tallokas Court, Leesburg, is in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The episode began when county police responded to a dispatch call to investigate motorcycles possibly racing on Oakridge Drive. When officers arrived two motorcycles took off but Anthony on his white Honda was stopped, a police report stated.
"After the motorcycle stop, it (the motorcycle) immediately took off headed north on South Slappey Boulevard," the report added.
Anthony drove at "a high rate of speed," ran a red light and crashed into a car that was turning into the Krispy Kreme shop at the corner of Pine Avenue and the 400 block of North Slappey Boulevard.
The charges against Anthony according to the police report are: Attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving and alteration of a license plate.
