Two bodies discovered in Albany

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Albany Police Department investigated two deaths Monday evening in the Albany area.

Albany Police spokesperson Phyllis Banks said a body discovered in a room at the Best Value Inn on North Slappey Boulevard was that of Raymond Daniel Davis, 33, from Cobb, who was found by relatives.

"(Cobb) had been living at the hotel and at approximately 4:41 p.m. some of his relatives discovered his body," said Banks.

Dougherty County Coroner Emma Quimbley ruled that Davis died from natural causes.

Banks said the 33-year-old had health issues that may have contributed to his death.

The body of a 47-year-old Leesburg man was found Monday afternoon by bikers just off the RiverWalk trail, officials said.

Banks confirmed Monday night that the man died from self-inflicted injuries.

Police officials said the man's body was discovered around 6 p.m. near the Georgia Power Hydroelectric dam in a secluded area just off the trail.

Banks said the man, who isn't being identified pending notification of next-of-kin, was found laying in a grassy area near a car that is believed to be his.

The initial reports mentioned a possible shooting and that the man had sustained a gunshot.

The police department said Monday evening that citizens should not be wary of the RiverWalk and that the trails are safe.
