ALBANY, Ga.: On the heels of announcing they had signed former Albany State University quarterback A.J. McKenna, Albany Panthers officials inked another big name Friday, former Westover standout and Oklahoma Sooner Antwone Savage.
Savage, who earned a championship ring as a part of the 2000 Sooner team, will start the 2011 season as a Panther, General Manager Will Carter and Coach Lucious Davis said.
Friday's announcement seals a deal that was first mentioned back in May, after Savage stepped in for injured Panther receiver Jonathan Harris, last season.
No rookie to arena-style football, Savage spent five years at Dallas, Spokane and then back home with the now-defunct South Georgia Wildcats.
