ALBANY, Ga. -- Pet Supermarket Inc. is in the process of opening a new store at 2500 Dawson Road in the vacant location that formerly housed Foot Locker.
Workers are installing shelving at the facility, which is scheduled for a soft opening on Dec. 8.
"We are super excited about coming to Albany," Pet Supermarket district manager Lindsay Wells said Friday. "It's a growing area, it's a great location and we feel like we have a lot to offer the area.
"We chose Albany because it currently lacks a top-notch pet store which offers true premium foods and brands that are not currently
available in the area."
Wells said the store will hire eight to 10 employees for the opening and will hold a job fair from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Courtyard by Marriott on Kensington Court.
"Part of the appeal of coming to Albany is that we are a 'mom and pop' operation, and we think Albany is a 'mom and pop' type of town," Wells said.
Pet Supermarket offers pet products and also provides vaccination services for canines, felines and ferrets, as well as laboratory testing, de-wormers and microchip identification products.
The chain has more than 100 stores in Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina, Nevada, Kentucky, Georgia and California.
The company, formerly known as Pet Circus, was founded in 1973, has nearly 1,000 employees and is headquartered in Sunrise, Fla.
