ATLANTA -- The NCAA Division II football playoff pairings were announced Sunday and two SIAC teams, Albany State and Morehouse -- for the first time in conference history -- both earned berths to the postseason.
For the first time since 2004, Albany State finished a perfect 10-0 in the regular season and No. 1 in the region. The Rams, who won their first SIAC title since 2006, will have a bye in the first-round of the playoffs and host the winner of Wingate/Morehouse on Nov. 27 at noon.
Morehouse, which finished 8-2 in the regular season and lost, 13-12, at the last second to ASU at home, earns its first playoff berth in school history. The Maroon Tigers, who are the No. 5 seed in NCAA Super Region Two, will travel to face No. 4 Wingate in the first round Saturday at noon.
On the other side of the bracket is ASU's bitter one-time rival, Valdosta State, which fell all the way to a No. 3 seed after losing to West Alabama in the final game of the regular season. Valdosta will host North Alabama on Saturday --- which was picked over a third SIAC team, Fort Valley State, due to strength of schedule --- with the winner playing at No. 2 seed Delta State, which gets a first-round bye this weekend. The winner of that game will play the winner of Albany State and whichever team wins between Morehouse and Wingate.
The winner of Super Region Two will advance to the semifinals on Dec. 11 with a berth to the national championship game on the line. The NCAA Division II National Championship game will take place Dec. 18 in Florence, Ala.
