Albany police investigate shooting at apartment complex

ALBANY, Ga. -- Albany police are investigating a shooting at College Park Apartments, 2214 Gillionville Road.

Albany Police Department spokeswoman Phyllis Banks confirmed moments ago that a man was shot in a commons area shared by four apartment buildings.

Reports said the shooting victim was taken to an Albany hospital.

There are a number of police cars along with an arson investigation van at the site. Residents of the apartment complex are milling around outside watching police.

Apartment complex officials ordered an Albany Herald reporter off the property.

A police report issued by e-mail at about 4:20 p.m. stated:

Victim: black male

Suspect: Two black males armed, wearing black jackets driving gold color late model vehicle

At approximately, 1:54 p.m., dispatch received a call regarding someone being transported in a personal vehicle to the hospital after being shot in the arm.

Officers later responded to the 2400 block of Gillionville Road (College Park Apartments) after learning that a shooting had occurred in the common area of one of the apartment units.

There have been no arrests and this case remains under investigation.
