ALBANY -- The Thanksgiving Shootout is back.

The once highly anticipated holiday high school basketball tournament -- for girls teams only -- is returning this year after nearly an almost 15-year absence, and it will be held at Darton College, beginning Friday.

The event, which is put on by Westover girls coach Lewis Smith, will feature eight teams, including four local programs and four teams from outside the city limits.

The schedule for the two-day event is as follows:

Dougherty vs. Colquitt, 4 p.m.

Monroe vs. Turner County,

5:30 p.m.

Albany vs. Whitefield Academy, 7 p.m.

Valdosta vs. Westover, 8:30 p.m.

There will be only three games Saturday because Valdosta and Dougherty could only commit to the shootout for one game.

The Lady Knights won their season opener in a rout Monday at the annual Stratford Tipoff Tournament.

DWS was led by two players in double figures -- Sarah Shellhaas (14) and Miranda Phillips (11) -- followed by Courtney Kelson (9), Sabrina Curry (8) and Heather Lash (8).

The host Lady Eagles were among the winning teams at their home TAE Tipoff on Monday, beating Flint River, 61-30. Alex Barfield led three TAE players in double figures with 14 points, as Millie Foster had 12 and Marlee Locke added 10.

In other games, Tiftarea defeated Westwood, 56-52, behind Courtney Albritton's 20 points, while Virginia Vereen led the Lady Wildcats with 20.

Also, Randolph Southern got by Robert Toombs, 49-46, thanks to Crystal McDaniel's 14 points, and Lakeside, Ala., beat Fullington, 49-37.

The tournament concludes today with four more games.
