ALBANY, Ga. -- Thanksgiving Day started a little early for some senior residents in Albany Wednesday.
The Albany Police Department's AmeriCorps cadets spread out a ham, turkey and cornbread dressing meal for four Albany Housing Authority residences. The meal at the Girls and Boys Club building at 701 Society Ave. was followed by Bingo games.
"This is our theme: 'He who thanks with the lips thanks but in part. The full, the true thanksgiving comes from the heart,'" said police Cpl. Denise Barnes. "We wanted to do something to say thanks to our seniors."
The meal and Bingo get together was greatly appreciated by Kay Harpe, Annie Roberts, Lillian Williams, Millie Rivers and about 15 of their neighbors.
"It is really nice that we can get together here to get to know our neighbors over a meal," Harpe said. "Bingo is fun, too."
Calling out the Bingo numbers, Eugene Papa, an AmeriCorps cadet, said he was having fun running the game for the residents.
"I've never called a Bingo game before," Papa said. "It is fun to show we care this way."
Cadets and others took disabled seniors who were not able to make the dinner take out trays of food. The residents were primarily from Golden Age, McIntosh, O.B. Hines and Thronateeska homes.
