ALBANY -- The Albany Panthers arena football team, who play in the Southern Indoor Football League, is getting ready for the 2011 season -- their second in Southwest Georgia.
But first, the franchise plans to give back to community kids.
In conjunction with the Albany Recreation and Parks Department, the Panthers announced Wednesday that the organization will officially launch a Youth Indoor Football League, which will begin this spring. The Youth Indoor Football League is open for children ages 6-12 years old.
"We're proud to be part of the Youth Indoor Football League and promote the game that captures our imagination like no other sport," Panthers GM Will Carter said. "Football teaches the value of leadership, responsibility and teamwork.
"These are the same qualities that more than three million youngsters attain each year by playing this game."
The YIFL registration will be held Jan. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Civic Center, and Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Albany Recreation & Parks Office, which is located at 1301 N. Monroe Street The registration fee is $35 per child.
In addition to other efforts, the Albany Panthers will offer one free season ticket to each of the participants in the Youth Indoor Football League.
