BREAKING NEWS: Deerfield topples Tattnall, wins second GISA Class AAA state crown in three years

ALBANY — They did it.

The Deerfield-Windsor Knights downed the Tattnall Square Trojans on Friday night at Webb Memorial Stadium, 38-22, to claim the GISA Class AAA state crown.

The win makes up for last year’s crushing loss to George Walton in the championship finale on DWS’ home field of Webb Memorial Stadium and marks the second state title in three years for the school that’s fast becoming known as a football powerhouse among Georgia’s private schools.

Banks Kinslow threw two TDs, Davis Moore ran for two of his own and Trey Puckett — last week’s hero who kicked the game-winning, 40-yard FG to lift DWS past Mount de Sales in the semis — added a 37-yarder in this one.

Coming into the game, Tattnall had owned Deerfield with an 11-3-1 all-time record.

The tide, however, seems to be officially turning as DWS jumped out to a 14-7 halftime lead and led, 31-7, at one point in the fourth quarter,
