ALBANY, Ga. -- The Deerfield-Windsor Knights and Westwood Wildcats' football teams completed perfect 13-0 seasons Friday night, with each capping an amazing year with a state title in its respective GISA championship game.
Deerfield-Windsor, which last won the title in 2008 -- and finished runner-up last year -- downed Tattnall Square at Webb Memorial Stadium in Albany, 38-22, behind a big game from quarterback Banks Kinslow and running back Davis Moore. Before Friday's win, Tattnall had owned Deerfield, leading their all-time series 11-3-1. The two teams had never met in the state title game before Friday.
As for Westwood, the Wildcats had no problems going on the long road to Savannah and overwhelming defending Class AA state champ Memorial Day. The Savannah school dropped to Class A this season but ended up being no match for the crew from Camilla.
Led by quarterback Mason Worsham, and the Edore brothers -- Jake, a senior, and J.T., a freshman -- Westwood led, 24-0, at half-time, before cruising to a 31-12 victory for the Wildcats' first state title since 2001. The win also capped just the third perfect season in school history.
