ALBANY, Ga. -- Four state legislators will be in attendance Wednesday morning at the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Legislative Rise N Shine Breakfast at Doublegate Country Club.
Breakfast and networking are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by the program at 8.
State Reps. Ed Rynders, Winfred Dukes and Carol Fullerton and state senator Freddie Powell Sims are scheduled to attend.
"All four of the legislators will speak," chamber Vice President of Public Policy and Communications Wendy Martin said. "Then we will open up the floor for questions. We'll also present the four with our legislative agenda for the upcoming year."
This evening, state senators John Crosby and Sims and Rep. Rynders will meet with Medical College of Georgia residential medical students at the Southwest Georgia Clinical Campus at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital to discuss the legislative process.
The event will is scheduled to last from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Thursday, Southwest Georgia members of the Georgia Association of Education will meet with area legislators at the GAE's annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Blackbeard's Restaurant.
GAE Field Director Rosa Ward said Monday that the organization's members will have the opportunity to talk to lawmakers on key issues facing the Georgia General Assembly.
Ward added that funding for public education will be atop the GAE's 2011 legislative agenda.
"Public education and the opportunities it affords is critical to a strong economic future for Georgia," Ward said. "It's time to stop balancing the state budget upon the backs of our children. With our long history of standing up for the needs of public education and our students, we will continue to look to legislators to help meet those needs."
