LEESBURG, Ga. — While he’s easily Leesburg, Lee County and Southwest Georgia’s favorite son, NL Rookie of the Year and World Series hero Buster Posey will not upstage Santa Claus in Saturday’s Spirit of Christmas Parade here.

Posey officially signed on as grand marshal of the parade Tuesday, and he will cover the parade route in the next-to-last entry, just ahead of Santa.

“We’re ecstatic, obviously,” Lee County Chamber of Commerce Director of Marketing Lisa Davis said. “We’ve been working on this for a long time, and it’s good to officially get it done. Of course, we expected the day to be special for Lee County even if Buster wasn’t able to be a part of the parade, but this makes it even better.”

Posey, who will not be available for an autograph/photo session sought by chamber officials, will receive a key to the city from Leesburg officials and will have a proclamation read in his honor by Lee County officials at the end of the parade.

The Spirit of Christmas Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Spirit of Christmas Festival and Dog Gone Good Christmas events will continue downtown throughout the day.
