ALBANY -- Two Albany State University Golden Rams have been selected for football player of the week honors by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Junior quarterback Stanley Jennings was named Offensive Player of the Week, and junior running back Robert Welton received Newcomer of the Week honors.
It was the second time this season they have walked away with these awards. Jennings and Welborn won the same awards after the opening night win against Kentucky State.
The dynamic duo was selected after their stellar performances in the 43-13 victory over the Lane College Dragons on Saturday.
Jennings, a Marietta native, completed 13 of 22 passes for 284 yards and four touchdowns, including 65-yard and 59-yard passes, in the Golden Rams' victory.
A native of Macon, Welton rushed for 138 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Golden Rams. He averaged 9.9 yards per rush. Welton and Jennings led the ASU "Gold Rush" to 414 total offensive yards, including 284 passing yards.
Two other Golden Rams received honorable mention recognitions for their performances against the Dragons. A member of the "Dirty Blue" defense, Prathon Wilkerson, a senior cornerback, recorded five solo tackles, including a tackle for a loss, and two interceptions for 32 yards. He also blocked a PAT attempt by the dragons.
Freshman kicker Brandon Hamilton added seven points to the ASU scoreboard after kicking four successful PATs and a 35-yard field goal. Hamilton recorded 430 yards on eight kickoffs, an average of 53.8 yards per kick.
The Golden Rams will celebrate Homecoming 2010 against the Miles College Golden Bears. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Albany State University Coliseum.
