Albany, Ga --- The Friends of Chehaw are hosting an event Thursday that will allow the public to get up close and personal with exotic animals and exhibits while helping one of the area's premier attractions.

"Walk on the Wild Side," is a fundraiser for the Parks at Chehaw and will allow patrons rare nighttime access to the various animals at the park as well as give them a shot at various prizes at both a silent and live auction, organizer Liz Gray says. The park will open for the event from 6 to 10 p.m.

"It's just a great event that gives adults an opportunity to have a good night out without the kids, while having the chance to be a kid again," she said. "What a great way to rediscover something that you may have seen as a child, to do that while helping preserve it for others to see and enjoy."

The event will feature food vendors from around the area and a bar for those with a taste for adult beverages, Gray says.

"These fundraisers are vital to keep the park in good shape, not just the animal part but also the other parts of the park like the bike trails and open spaces," Gray said.

The event is $30 for adults and $25 for those who already have a Chehaw membership or passport. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in your best safari attire.

Thursday's event is a prelude to another weekend event that Gray says has grown in popularity over the years and is expected to be quite a draw.

The Chehaw Fall Classic will begin at a 9:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday and will pit all manner of disc golfers --- from those at the junior level up to the pro's --- against one another.

Disc golfing, which involves frisbees, is a popular sport throughout the country and Gray says its gaining in popularity locally.

To participate, the prices range from $20 to $55 depending on your experience level and spectators can get in to watch for $2.
