Trick-or-treaters get early start in Albany

ALBANY, Ga. -- When's Halloween?

Well, officially in Albany this year, it's been moved up a day to Oct. 30.

Halloween falling on a Sunday has long been a controversy when it happens, as it does this year. As a result, city officials have been fielding inquiries from the public over the past few days.

"The City Manager's office has received many calls about trick or treating on Saturday, October 30, or Sunday, October 31," Assistant City Manager West Smith said this afternoon."After some deliberation, this office would like to formally recommend that this community carry out this tradition on Saturday, October 30, 2010."

Smith said the primary considerations were safety and early starts the trick-or-treaters would need on Monday, Nov. 1.

"Many factors come in to play, but most importantly public safety combined with school the next day," Smith said. "Please help spread the word so that we can have a safe and enjoyable time for our kids.
