House Minority Leader to support Keown

U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner will be in Albany on Wednesday on behalf of Mike Keown's campaign for U.S. Congress.

ALBANY, Ga. -- The top-ranking Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives will be in Albany later this week to stump for Mike Keown.

U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner will be in the Good Life City Wednesday to support Keown's campaign. Keown, R-Coolidge, is running for the Second Congressional District seat that includes Albany.

Boehner will be in Albany for a breakfast fundraiser and rally at 8 a.m. at Doublegate Country Club, Keown Campaign Manager Andrew O'Shea confirmed Monday.

"We are happy to have his support," O'Shea said.

Keown is attempting to unseat U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, who is eyeing a 10th term in Congress.

Boehner is also expected to be at a fundraiser in Perry for Austin Scott, a Tifton Republican who is attempting to unseat U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Macon, in the Eighth Congressional District.

Attempts to reach a spokesman for Boehner were unsuccessful Monday.

Finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission last week show that Keown's campaign has posted record-breaking fundraising numbers, bringing in $377,000 from individual contributors and political committees for the third quarter of 2010.

As of that filing, his campaign had received contributions from roughly 2,200 donors -- more than 85 percent of whom reside in Georgia. Bishop, meanwhile, had $575,131 in cash on hand.

Some of the big endorsements Keown has been able to claim recently include retired Air Force Col. Gary Breedlove, who was appointed by Bishop as chairman of the House Committee for Recommendation.
