TIFTON -- No one is sure just yet, because there are some goofy scenarios that could land Sherwood Christian Academy in a three-way tie for fourth place, but everything points to a trip to the playoffs for the Eagles, who made a huge step Friday by beating Tiftarea, 42-10.
Philip English rushed for 121 yards and scored three touchdowns, and Terrance Burnette completed 7-of-8 passes for 221 yards and two TDs -- both to Mack Green, who caught four passes for 166 yards, included a 56-yard TD catch and a 64-yard TD.
"It would be huge for us to get into the playoffs,'' said Sherwood coach Reggie Mitchell, whose team is 6-3 on the season and 5-2 in Region 1-AAA, which all but guarantees a playoff spot in the GISA Class AAA playoffs. SCA moved back up from AA to AAA this season after spending two years in AA. "There are still some scenarios, but I hope we're in. It would be huge for the program.
"It says a lot about the program and the kids because we moved back up to AAA this year.''
And if you're going to the playoffs, it helps if you're hot, and SCA had one of its best games of the year Friday.
"We played four quarters of football,'' Mitchell said. "They gelled (Friday night). We hope we're peaking right now that it's getting close to the playoffs. It's the right time to gel.''
The Eagles dominated on both sides of the line of scrimmage as the defense controlled the game.
"We had a great game from (linebacker) Javaz Williams and (defensive end) Chris Roberts,'' Mitchell said." It was a hard fought game. Give Tiftarea credit.''
