ALBANY, Ga. -- Cigarettes continue to be the target of thieves when they break into convenience stores, according to an Albany Police Department report.
After shattering a front glass door with a brick, thieves pounced on cigarettes and then ran from the K&S Foods convenience store at 1104 Newton Road about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, the report said.
No descriptions for the suspects were immediately available, said Phyllis Banks, police department spokeswoman.
Summertime thefts from convenience stores including cigarettes and cash stretch back at least to June.
Among the convenience stores robbed by break in or at gunpoint recently were Jessica's Stop & Go, 2212 Martin Luther King Drive; Flash Foods, 2701 Glenville Road and 2447 N. Slapped Blvd.; College Corner, 2217 Glenville Road; Coachman Park Grocery, 1608 S. Jefferson St.; One Stop Foods, 1404 Oakridge Drive, and Smith's Super Value on the 1000 block of South Harding Avenue.
