Webinar to focus on Cervical, breast cancer sccreenings

ALBANY -- Two women affiliated with a local low-cost clinic asked Dougherty County Commissioners to participate in a webinar Thursday to promote screenings for cervical and breast cancer.

Lisa Grace and Nedra Fortson of Samaritan's Clinic asked the commissioners to participate in an advocacy webinar meant to help those interested in spreading the word of the importance of early screening for some of the most prevalent cancers in women.

Sponsored by the Morehouse School of Medicine and the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition Fund, the webinar is set for 5 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 901 S. Westover Blvd.

Samaritan's Clinic is a charity-based health initiative that helps the impoverished obtain certain levels of medical care and preventative care.

Fortson told commissioners that they've been able to reach out to more than 1,000 local women.

"Our concern is that we have to be out on the front lines, promoting mammograms and screenings for cervical cancer in order to make a difference," Fortson said.
