Cancer survivors to model Crate clothes

ALBANY, Ga. -- A group of women and men will show the Good Life City how great it looks to be a cancer survivor at an Oct. 5 fashion show.

The "Survivors in Fashion" event is scheduled to be held at from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Merry Acres Ballroom at 1500 Dawson Road.

In addition to the fashion show, the event will include food, door prizes and entertainment. Event coordinator Diane Shillcutt said all proceeds from ticket sales to the fashion show will benefit the American Cancer Society.

"This is the first year in a while (the fashion show) has been done," said Shillcutt. "Everyone has graciously donated their time and talents, and we hope everyone will come out to support the American Cancer Society."

The models, who are all local cancer survivors, will model fashions donated by The Crate especially for the show. Amanda Taylor from The Crate on East Oakridge Drive said the clothing store is excited about the opportunity to support the community and bring awareness to cancer.

"For me personally, it was important to be involved because my grandmother was a breast cancer survivor, and it truly affects everyone," Taylor said.

Shillcutt said organizers are still looking for cancer survivors who would like to participate in the fashion show.

"We have no age limit, and we welcome survivors of all genders," said the event organizer.
