ALBANY -- The Albany State football team gained two spots in the latest AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, which was released Monday.
The Rams (4-0) defeated Savannah State, 28-14, Saturday in Waycross in "The Rumble in the Swamp," a renewed rivalry game for the two teams which have played each other 60 times since 1932.
ASU now sits at No. 14 in the poll, up from last week's No. 16 spot. The school is the highest-ranked Division II program in Georgia.
MORE AWARDS: Since the Rams had an all-around good game against Savannah State, no player on the team received the SIAC Player of the Week award for a change, but some players did get honored.
Norris Byrd received the Offensive Lineman of the Week, while RB Kareem Hess, Earnest Seay, Orion Ponder and kicker Brandon Hamilton all received honorable mentions.
