ALBANY, Ga.: Acting on information that he could be in the area, local law enforcement cast a net over an apartment complex near where a stabbing occurred Saturday night hoping to catch Cedric Waters.

Waters is the chief suspect in an attack on his wife Janice, who was stabbed up to 15 times on South Jackson Avenue Saturday night, according to reports from those at the scene.

Monday, local law enforcement swarmed to the area near Ashley Riverside Apartments on South Jackson Avenue and established a perimeter in hopes of flushing him out.

But as police were entering the complex around 1:30 p.m., dispatchers received word that a suspect matching his description had been seen near a home in a neighborhood just off South Jackson Avenue about a quarter-mile south of where the attack took place.

As police canvassed the area around Carter Street and Robinson Street, they approached a house on Robinson only to find out that the man in question wasn't Waters.

As police sought her husband, there was conflicting information as to Janice Waters' whereabouts. Officials with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital say that she isn't at their facility where she was taken Saturday night. But police officials say that she is, and is in stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Albany Police Department at 431-2100.
