ALBANY, Ga. -- One of the state's top economic development leaders will give the keynote address at a luncheon during next month's Industry Celebration Week, officials say.
Gretchen Corbin currently serves as Georgia's Deputy Commissioner for Economic Development and is responsible for helping Georgia businesses gain increased access to global markets.
But on Friday, May 15, Corbin will speak on the importance of devoting attention on existing businesses within the community, Albany-Dougherty Economic Development spokesperson Barbara Rivera Holmes said.
"You can't alienate your existing customers just because you want new customers," Holmes said. You need to have both, but you can not alienate the people you already have."
The luncheon is being sponsored by General Dynamics -- a global defense contractor who has set up shop here in Albany. Tickets are $25 per person or $400 for a table of eight and will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn downtown.
The event comes at the end of the EDC's Industry Celebration Week which is an annual acknowledgment of the contributions made by local businesses and industry.
During the week, the EDC will reward businesses who have excelled in their economic impact, work as a corporate community citizen, global commercialization and innovation.
