ALBANY, Ga.- The Dougherty County Commission will consider recommendations on two of its volunteer boards this month.
Miloy Schwartz, owner and proprietor of Lemonade Marketing downtown, has been recommended by the board of Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful to fill the vacancy left by Dr. John Temple Phillips IV, who resigned in February after having health issues, KADB Director Judy Bowles said.
His resignation came two weeks before he was arrested, along with his wife, by the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit with charges related to fraudulently obtaining the painkiller endocet.
The board's nominating committee accepted Bowles' recommendation of Schwartz, who she said Monday was a strong environmental advocate.
"She called and expressed interest in the vacancy and seems passionate about the environment," Bowles said.
The recommendation will now be considered by the county commission.
If appointed, Schwartz will join her husband in volunteer public service.
Chad Schwartz has been appointed to the city's Community and Economic Development Council -- the group that helps determine how federal community development block grants are spent.
The commission will also consider a recommendation from Commissioner Ewell Lyle to appoint WFXL-TV reporter Ashley Knight to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission.
If selected, Knight would fill the unexpired term of Flint RiverQuarium Director Scott Loehr, which ends on Dec. 31, 2012.
Loehr left earlier this year to take a job as the director for the Delaware State Historic Society.
The Historic Preservation Commission regulates development in the historic district, balancing redevelopment efforts with preservation of the Albany's historic properties.
